SRE / DevOps Lead

About the role

As april's SRE / DevOps Lead, you will own the reliability, scalability, and security of the GCP‑based platform that powers a tax intelligence service used by wealth managers, banks, and fintechs. This hands‑on leadership role involves setting technical direction, writing code and configs, and managing a small SRE team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 2 SREs, defining direction across SRE, DevOps, and IT.
• Own architecture, performance, and reliability of the platform (Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, networking).
• Define and uphold SLOs, infra budgets, on‑call priorities, and incident response practices.
• Build and operate the observability stack (Datadog or equivalent) to enable proactive issue detection.
• Partner with engineering and security to maintain SOC 2, SOC 1 and STIG compliance.
• Plan capacity, load testing, and game days for high‑stakes tax season periods.
• Manage corporate IT functions including identity (Okta), Google Workspace, and endpoint management (Jamf/Kandji).

Required profile

• 7+ years of SRE/DevOps/Platform Engineering experience, including at least 1 year leading engineers.
• Deep hands‑on experience running production workloads on GCP, Kubernetes (GKE) and Terraform at scale.
• Strong programming or scripting skills in Go, Python or similar.
• Experience operating in a SOC 2 environment and supporting external audits.
• Proven ability to lead calmly during incidents and coach team members.
• Clear written and spoken English; comfortable collaborating across time zones.
