Senior Software Engineer II, Payments

About the role

Forter is building a smart payment solution that helps merchants maximize authorization rates by choosing the best strategy for each transaction. Its Payments team runs highly critical, production-grade infrastructure and is looking for a deeply technical engineer to help shape it from the ground up. You will own payment products end to end, from architecture and coding to deployment and monitoring, and help set the technical direction of a growing initiative.

Key responsibilities

• Build and enhance payment products, creating new systems from scratch and integrating with existing ones
• Design and implement resilient, production-grade infrastructure for critical workloads
• Lead technical initiatives within the Payments team and collaborate with teammates and stakeholders
• Shape features with product managers and peers, and work closely with customers to turn their needs into payment solutions
• Mentor and support fellow engineers and solve production issues
• Take initiative to improve systems and workflows

Required profile

• 6+ years building and maintaining complex software systems, with 6+ years of backend experience focused on production-grade systems
• 1+ years of JavaScript experience
• Familiarity with browser, networking and security concepts
• Professional-level spoken and written English
• Hybrid work: team members near key hubs work from the office at least three days per week

Required skills

• Production systems with high availability, reliability and scalability
• Node.js (a plus)
• React and mobile (a plus)
• Databases and datastores such as MySQL, Redis and ElasticSearch (a plus)
• Previous payments experience and enterprise-grade SaaS experience (a plus)
