Java Software Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to join its Optical Diagnostics and Control (ODC) Business Unit in Rehovot, Israel. You will work on cutting‑edge semiconductor and display technologies, applying machine learning and AI to create high‑performance software for next‑generation defect detection products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype, develop, and debug Java‑based software solutions for semiconductor equipment components.
• Create and maintain software documentation, test procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Collaborate with internal customers to gather requirements and ensure solutions meet quality and functionality standards.
• Make technical decisions that guarantee scalability and performance of large‑scale distributed systems in a Linux environment.
• Contribute to the full product lifecycle, from concept through launch.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience developing high‑performance, large‑scale distributed systems.
• Strong background in Linux‑based development environments.
• Proven ability to work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team.
