Staff Engineer, Core Engineering

About the role

Forter is seeking a Staff Engineer to join its Core Engineering group, which builds the low‑latency infrastructure powering real‑time fraud decisions and external APIs. You will work on critical backend components that serve some of the world’s largest merchants and shape the foundation of Forter’s decisioning platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale backend systems for real‑time decisioning and APIs, ensuring low latency, fault tolerance, and high throughput.
• Own projects end‑to‑end, from design and implementation through production rollout and monitoring.
• Improve observability, reliability, and developer experience with strong operational tooling.
• Collaborate with product, data science, and infrastructure teams to drive innovation across the decision ecosystem.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience building backend systems in large‑scale production environments, with at least 2 years at a Staff Engineer level.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Kotlin, or Node.js.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud‑native technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Proven ability to design and maintain high‑scale distributed systems.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with technical and non‑technical audiences, including customers.
