Senior Software Engineer II, Core Engineering

About the role

Forter is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Core Engineering group, responsible for the real‑time, low‑latency infrastructure that powers fraud decisions and external APIs. You will work on critical backend components that serve some of the world’s largest merchants.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale backend systems for real‑time decisioning and APIs.
• Own projects end‑to‑end, from design through production rollout and monitoring.
• Ensure low‑latency, fault‑tolerant, high‑throughput performance across distributed environments.
• Improve observability, reliability, and developer experience with strong operational tooling.
• Collaborate with product, analysts, data scientists, and infrastructure teams to drive innovation.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience building backend systems in large‑scale production environments.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Kotlin, or Node.js.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud‑native technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Proven ability to design and maintain high‑scale distributed systems.
• Strong sense of ownership, autonomy, and accountability.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
