Engineering Software Manager – Cortex Cloud

About the role

The Engineering Software Manager will lead a team of about six engineers working on Cortex Cloud, one of Palo Alto Networks' most complex and cross‑functional domains. This position blends people leadership with deep technical expertise in large‑scale distributed cloud systems.

Key responsibilities

• Build, mentor, and lead a high‑performing software engineering team, fostering empowerment and growth.
• Partner with Product Management, Infrastructure, Research, and UX to define priorities and shape multi‑quarter roadmaps.
• Own the end‑to‑end software development lifecycle, translating strategy into executable plans and ensuring on‑time, high‑quality delivery.
• Provide architectural leadership for petabyte‑scale, cloud‑native backend microservices.
• Drive production readiness through best practices in deployment, observability, reliability, and runtime stability.
• Engage directly with strategic customers for technical deep dives and architecture reviews.

Required profile

• 3‑4 years of experience managing software engineering teams in a large‑scale organization.
• 5+ years of hands‑on software engineering with a strong systems‑level foundation.
• Proven ability to plan, execute, and deliver complex roadmaps for distributed cloud products.
• Strong collaboration skills and a track record of aligning cross‑disciplinary teams.
