AI/Data Science Team Manager

About the role

Lead a high‑performing AI/Data Science team within Medtronic’s Surgical Operating unit, developing innovative algorithms for lung‑cancer diagnostic devices. Drive end‑to‑end algorithm development and collaborate across R&D, clinical and product teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead researchers to create machine‑learning, computer‑vision and image‑processing solutions for medical devices.
• Represent the algorithm team in global forums, communicating progress, risks and results.
• Oversee the full algorithm lifecycle: research, design, implementation, validation, documentation and optimization.
• Provide technical direction, mentorship and conduct design/code reviews.
• Partner with Data, Software, Systems, Clinical and Product teams to define requirements, plan milestones and manage risks from prototype to production.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, EE or related field (must).
• 7+ years of R&D experience in algorithms/ML with end‑to‑end delivery ownership.
• Proven leadership experience, including team/tech lead, mentoring and cross‑functional execution.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving and data‑driven decision‑making skills.

Required skills

• Python (production‑quality code).
• Machine learning, deep learning and AI model development, optimization and deployment.
• Computer vision and image‑processing techniques.
• Experience with algorithm validation and documentation.
