System Engineer - PhD Graduates

About the role

KLA, a global leader in electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, is looking for PhD graduates with a strong background in optics and complex physical systems to join its multidisciplinary R&D team. The System Engineering team drives the development of advanced semiconductor metrology systems, combining technical expertise, scientific curiosity and system-level thinking.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the system meets its requirements and understand its technical aspects (hardware, algorithm, software) and customer use cases.
• Troubleshoot and maintain engineering prototype systems at the division headquarters.
• Review and approve system requirements and design documents.
• Contribute to product marketing and the division's strategic plans to clarify market needs in terms of system requirements.
• Collect and analyse large amounts of data from the system and from customers to gain insights into system behaviour.
• Respond to field escalations where field service engineers cannot resolve complex performance problems, with written plans of action and hands-on support at customer sites worldwide.
• Design and run multi-disciplinary experiments, write and peer review detailed test plans and summary reports for system testing.

Required profile

• PhD in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline.
• Research experience involving optics, photonics, imaging systems, optical measurements, experimental physics or engineering.
• Strong English oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and leadership abilities.

Required skills

• Solid knowledge of data analysis and signal/image processing using Python or Matlab.
• Complex system comprehension and excellent collaboration across disciplines, with the ability to work independently.
