Research Scientist Student - Optical Metrology

About the role

KLA, a global leader in electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, is looking for a research scientist student for its Optical Metrology Division in Migdal HaEmek. The division develops metrology and inspection products that help chipmakers ramp next-generation devices to volume production. The role sits in the Global Products Group, which covers all of KLA's metrology and inspection products.

Key responsibilities

• Propose novel concepts and develop creative theoretical approaches to challenging problems in optical metrology
• Formulate analytical models and run numerical simulations to prove concepts
• Bridge theory and experiment: build models, compare them with experimental data and iterate to refine the theoretical framework
• Analyze and interpret simulation results and experimental data rigorously
• Evaluate new technologies and concepts from the scientific literature
• Formulate conclusions and recommendations to guide next-generation products and the roadmap
• Collaborate closely within the team and across functions

Required profile

• BSc, MSc or PhD student in Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Proven analytical and modeling skills, since formulating analytical models and/or building numerical simulations is the core of the role
• Strong mathematical foundations
• Scientific curiosity, critical thinking and excellent written and verbal scientific communication
• Independent, creative thinker with scientific rigor, and a team player in a multidisciplinary R&D environment

Advantages

• Prior research experience in industry or academia (thesis project, lab rotation, internship)
• Experience comparing theoretical models against experimental data
• Solid theoretical background in optics and the physics of light-matter interaction
