Software Engineer - C++ (PET Data Acquisition)

About the role

As a Software Engineer for PET Data Acquisition, you will join a specialized team developing the real-time software stack behind GE HealthCare's PET/CT imaging systems. Your software affects image quality and system reliability, helping clinicians worldwide deliver accurate diagnoses. You will work on a distributed, high-performance C++ system running on Linux that configures detector hardware, processes high-throughput data streams and integrates across the scanner ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop end-to-end data acquisition features, from low-level UDP capture and event processing through service layers and client APIs.
• Optimize and maintain performance-critical code: lock-free data structures, thread affinity and NUMA optimization, zero-copy buffers, and deterministic real-time execution.
• Enhance inter-process communication mechanisms such as shared memory, message queues and service interfaces.
• Work with embedded SQL-based persistence layers for configuration, metadata and runtime state.
• Collaborate with hardware, physics and system teams to integrate new detector and system components.
• Write unit and integration tests and take part in code and design reviews.
• Troubleshoot complex cross-process issues using debugging and profiling tools such as gdb, perf, tcpdump and strace.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of C++ development on Linux, including modern C++ (C++14/17).

Required skills

• Multi-threaded and multi-process systems, synchronization primitives, memory models and concurrency.
• Inter-process communication via shared memory, sockets and message queues.
• System-level programming and performance optimization.
• Working knowledge of SQL / relational databases (an advantage).
