Senior Software Engineer & Scrum Master

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Senior Software Engineer & Scrum Master to join a development team building the next‑generation software platform for a strategic product line. This hybrid role splits time between Scrum Master duties and hands‑on software engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Own Agile/Scrum activities: Jira management, backlog prioritisation, sprint planning, daily meetings and cross‑team coordination.
• Lead quarterly and sprint‑level planning, manage project timelines, integrations and development quality.
• Provide technical leadership: guide design decisions, mentor engineers and participate in code reviews.
• Design and develop backend software for complex product features, using Java and modern development practices.
• Drive quality and continuous improvement across testing, automation, CI/CD and AI‑assisted development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 2+ years experience as a Scrum Master, Team Lead or similar leadership role.
• 7+ years experience in backend/server‑side software development.
• Strong ownership, communication and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Java or other object‑oriented programming languages.
• Experience with cloud environments, Kubernetes, Docker and containerised deployments.
• Familiarity with distributed or event‑driven architectures (e.g., Temporal, Redis, RabbitMQ, Apache Flink).
• Knowledge of modern software development practices: source control, CI/CD, testing strategies and release workflows.
• Experience with AI‑first development tools and agents.
