Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Optical Metrology

About the role

KLA, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing electronics, is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Hardware Development team in Migdal Ha-emek. You will lead the development of next-generation precision optical metrology systems used in the semiconductor industry, working in a multidisciplinary environment on systems that require exceptional mechanical performance, stability and accuracy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities: requirements definition, concept development, trade-off analyses, detailed design, engineering drawings, design reviews and technical presentations.
• Develop and integrate precision motion systems, opto-mechanical assemblies, pneumatic systems, vibration isolation, thermal management, clean-air flow control and electronic packaging.
• Perform engineering analyses such as tolerance stack-up, GD&T, error budgeting and requirements flow-down and verification.
• Execute and interpret finite element analyses (structural, modal, thermal, flow).
• Support prototype procurement, assembly, integration, testing and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with optics, systems engineering, electronics, software, manufacturing and supplier teams.
• Investigate field and manufacturing issues, drive root-cause analysis and support corrective actions.
• Provide technical support for customer escalations, manufacturing activities and on-site system investigations.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience in a multidisciplinary R&D environment.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary hardware projects.
• Strong foundation in mechanics, physics, materials science and engineering fundamentals.
• Preferred: experience in semiconductor equipment or other high-tech industries, and knowledge of vibration isolation principles.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD tools; SolidWorks experience is a strong advantage.
• Hands-on experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
• Preferred: Flow Simulation and Simulation Professional tools.
• Knowledge of precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and thermal management and cooling design.
• Excellent English communication and ability to lead HW project teams.
