Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Join Medtronic as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and play a key role in designing and developing innovative mechanical and electromechanical medical products across research, new product development, and released product engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering activities including design of components, assemblies, mechanisms, and systems, and create 3D models, drawings, and documentation.
• Perform engineering analyses such as tolerance stack‑up, GD&T, and predictive engineering to optimize performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
• Plan, support, and document prototype builds, testing, verification and validation, and design of fixtures, jigs, and tools.
• Lead technical investigations and root‑cause analysis for design, manufacturing, test, production, and field issues.
• Drive product lifecycle activities: BOM development, configuration control, engineering changes, and transfer of designs to manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including manufacturing, suppliers, quality, systems, tests, and electrical engineering.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and design reviews for other engineers and lead projects or workstreams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (4+ years experience) or Master’s (2+ years) or PhD (entry level).
• Strong experience in mechanical product design, precision‑machined parts, sheet metal, plastics, mechanisms, and assemblies.
• Proficiency with GD&T, tolerance stack‑up analysis, design for manufacturability, and verification methods.
• Experience working with suppliers and manufacturing teams throughout development and product support.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, written and verbal communication skills.
