Senior BI Engineer

About the role

At-Bay, a cyber‑insurance company, is looking for a Senior BI Engineer to design and build data models and pipelines that turn raw events into trusted, well‑documented data. You will work closely with analysts, actuaries, product, and engineering teams, leveraging modern tooling and AI to deliver data faster and more reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own dimensional and domain data models in Snowflake as the single source of truth for key metrics.
• Develop incremental, tested, version‑controlled transformations using dbt, Python and Airflow, ingesting data from internal services, SaaS tools and third‑party APIs.
• Implement data quality tests, contracts, monitoring and alerting to ensure stakeholder trust.
• Optimize query performance and Snowflake cost as data volumes grow.
• Build a semantic/metrics layer and clean, documented data for self‑serve analytics and LLM‑based agents.
• Use AI‑assisted tools like Claude Code or Copilot to accelerate development and promote best practices.
• Lead technical initiatives, drive POCs, migrations and architecture decisions, and mentor teammates.
• Translate business questions from underwriting, finance, product and leadership into scalable data solutions.

Required profile

• 4+ years experience as a BI Engineer, Analytics Engineer or Data Engineer.
• Expert SQL skills with ability to read query plans and optimize performance at scale.
• Strong background in data‑warehouse design and dimensional modeling (star schemas, SCDs, incremental loads).
• Experience with Snowflake performance tuning, cost management and RBAC.
• Proficiency with orchestration tools such as Airflow.
• Hands‑on production experience with dbt (models, tests, macros, documentation).
• Python programming for data pipelines, automation and integrations.
• Git‑based workflows and CI/CD for data.
• Excellent communication in English and Hebrew, able to explain technical trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.
