Principal Experience Designer

About the role

Autodesk is looking for a Principal Product Designer to define the experience direction for a strategic area within Autodesk Forma, its SaaS platform for construction management. The role is a highly visible individual-contributor position for a design leader who works independently, influences across organizational boundaries and shapes the future of the Forma construction tools. It sits in a globally distributed design organization.

Key responsibilities

• Define the experience strategy and long-term design direction for a strategic product area, connecting it to broader customer journeys and the Autodesk Forma platform.
• Develop domain expertise and turn customer, product, business and technology insights into priorities, experience principles and strategic recommendations.
• Partner with senior Product and Engineering leaders to shape product strategy, influence roadmap decisions and guide prioritization and investment trade-offs.
• Identify and lead opportunities spanning multiple products, workflows or teams, and build experience frameworks, workflow models, interaction patterns and design-system approaches that scale beyond one product team.
• Shape the direction of AI-powered experiences so they deliver meaningful, understandable, responsible and trustworthy value.
• Lead ambiguous, high-impact initiatives with autonomy, balancing long-term outcomes with several concurrent priorities.
• Use hands-on design and prototyping to explore opportunities, communicate direction and set a high standard of product quality.
• Lead design reviews, planning conversations and cross-functional forums, and mentor designers across global teams.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional product design experience, including complex SaaS, enterprise or platform products.
• A portfolio showing strategic thinking, systems thinking, strong design craft and impact across complex products.
• Proven experience defining experience vision and product direction, and influencing senior stakeholder decisions without formal authority.
• Experience connecting workflows and customer journeys across products or teams, and creating scalable experience frameworks or design-system solutions.
• Ability to lead multiple complex initiatives independently with a high quality bar.
• Excellent communication, storytelling, facilitation and collaboration skills, including across distributed global teams.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience designing products for construction, AECO or another complex, domain-rich industry.
• Experience in quarterly planning, portfolio prioritization or other strategic product-planning processes.
• Mentoring experienced designers and raising design quality across teams.
• Establishing new ways of working, decision-making frameworks or design practices adopted across an organization.

The role requires advanced proficiency with Figma and prototyping tools. The position may involve in-person onboarding and identity verification. Salary depends on experience and location, and the package may include bonuses, stock grants and benefits.
