Embedded Software Engineer (TRUPULSE Firmware)

About the role

Johnson & Johnson MedTech Cardiovascular is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join its Yokneam, Israel team. The role develops firmware and drivers for the TRUPULSE generator, using Nios II soft-core IP on FPGA platforms, and works closely with the hardware team to integrate peripherals and maintain BSPs and drivers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop embedded firmware in C for FPGA-based systems
• Maintain and extend BSPs and low-level drivers
• Integrate software with hardware peripherals
• Debug system-level issues across firmware and hardware
• Collaborate with hardware engineers

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in embedded software/firmware development
• Strong C programming skills for embedded systems (pointers, memory management, fixed-point and bit manipulation)
• Experience with bare-metal firmware or RTOS-based systems (task scheduling, interrupts, synchronization)
• Experience writing and debugging device drivers (UART, SPI, I2C, GPIO, timers, ADC/DAC)
• Hands-on debugging skills: JTAG, serial consoles, GDB or equivalent debugger
• Basic electronics knowledge: reading schematics, voltage levels, signal basics

Required skills

• Version control (Git / TFS, branching, pull requests, basic workflows)
• Nios II architecture, toolchain and runtime (BSP, Eclipse-based tools, cross gcc) - an advantage
• FPGA toolchains (Intel/Altera Quartus, Platform Designer / Qsys) - an advantage
• Logic analyzers or SignalTap - an advantage
