R&D Engineer – Semiconductor Inspection Tools

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking an R&D Engineer to develop hardware modules that control and eliminate particle contamination in next‑generation SEM inspection tools. The role sits at the intersection of physics, materials science, and mechanical engineering, directly impacting the quality of advanced semiconductor chips.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop hardware modules that reduce contamination sources in inspection equipment.
• Investigate and resolve complex contamination events at the root‑cause level.
• Embed contamination control measures into new products from day one.
• Define best practices for building clean tools and share knowledge across the team.
• Engage with customers and vendors on contamination challenges and specifications.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
• Hands‑on multidisciplinary experience with particle behavior, contamination metrology, or cleanliness.
• Self‑driven, curious and able to work on problems without predefined solutions.
