PhD Student – Computational Biology & Neuroscience

About the role

The Stern Lab at the University of Haifa seeks a highly motivated PhD student to join an interdisciplinary team focused on computational biology, data science, and human neuronal models. The research aims to uncover mechanisms behind neurological and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze large‑scale transcriptomic, single‑cell, and multi‑omics datasets.
• Perform computational analysis of neuronal phenotypes and disease models.
• Integrate computational and experimental approaches, including work with iPSC‑derived neurons and brain organoids.
• Develop analytical pipelines and explore machine‑learning methods.

Required profile

• Strong background in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, computer science, physics, engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in programming, preferably Python and/or R.
• Interest in neuroscience and disease modeling.
• Excellent quantitative and analytical abilities.
• Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary environment bridging computational and experimental neuroscience.
• Previous experience with RNA‑seq, single‑cell analysis, machine learning, or computational neuroscience is a plus but not mandatory.
