Mechanical Design Engineer II

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer II will develop moderately complex mechanical subsystems for new and legacy defense products. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will translate product requirements into reliable, cost‑effective designs while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design innovative mechanical subsystems that meet performance and cost targets.
• Create and verify detailed drawings with proper dimensioning, GD&T, and ASME Y14.5 compliance.
• Perform statistical tolerance stack analyses and identify quality‑related QAPs.
• Conduct subsystem analyses using tools such as FEA, motion simulation, CFD, or heat‑transfer software.
• Process change orders in the PLM system, managing part releases and revisions.
• Develop logical test plans, collaborate with test technicians, and analyze test data to validate designs.

Required profile

• Mid‑level engineer capable of working independently with limited guidance.
• Strong attention to detail and sound engineering judgment.
• Effective collaborator with designers, other engineers, NPI managers, test technicians, product management, manufacturing, quality, and assembly teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in GD&T and ASME Y14.5 drawing standards.
• Experience with statistical tolerance stack analysis.
• Hands‑on use of FEA, motion analysis, CFD, or heat‑transfer simulation tools.
• Familiarity with PLM systems for change order processing.
• Ability to create and execute test plans and interpret test results.
