About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Senior Software Backend Engineer to design and develop the core backend of its next‑generation scan‑domain platform. The role is hands‑on, focused on Java development, system‑level design, and delivering high‑performance services that interact with complex hardware workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop backend software in Java for scan‑domain system flows.
• Implement and maintain core system logic that orchestrates scanning, sequencing, and execution flows.
• Collaborate with algorithm, hardware, and system teams to integrate end‑to‑end scan workflows.
• Develop scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend components using a domain‑driven architecture.
• Participate in system design, architecture discussions, and technical decision‑making.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and optimise complex backend and system‑level issues.

Required profile

• 7+ years of strong hands‑on experience in Java backend development.
• Proven experience designing and implementing complex backend or system‑level software.
• Experience working in Linux‑based environments and domain‑driven architectures.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, concurrency, and performance considerations.
• Ability to work across domains and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
