Experienced Mechanical Engineer – Hardware R&D

About the role

Applied Materials Israel is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join its Hardware R&D group. You will work on the development of complex machines used for optical and electron microscopy in semiconductor wafer inspection. The role combines mechanical design, experimentation, and cross‑disciplinary collaboration in a clean‑room environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design of structural elements, optomechanical systems, calibrations, high‑precision mechanisms, pneumatics, vacuum, manual and motorized mechanisms, filtration and cooling systems for clean‑room use.
• Design and execute experiments, run CAE simulations and analyses for design validation and troubleshooting.
• Author detailed drawings, define fabrication processes, select materials and finishes, and conduct complex tolerance analysis.
• Lead the mechanical aspects of development, present design reviews, and collaborate with optics, physics, control, electronics, software, project management, manufacturing, field support and suppliers.

Required profile

• BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of mechanical design experience.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, able to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
• Team player with excellent interpersonal communication and fluent English.
• Self‑motivated, fast learner willing to explore new topics.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CAD software.
• Experience with CAE tools for structural, modal, thermal and flow analysis.
• Skilled in GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• High presentation skills.
