Education Specialist (Science) Grade 13 - Education Programme, Jerusalem

About the role

UNRWA is recruiting an Education Specialist (Science) Grade 13 for its Education Programme, Area Office Jerusalem, for internal candidates only. The incumbent provides technical support to teachers and schools in the area to promote equitable, inclusive quality education, works with the School Principal to support professional development and helps create a safe and effective learning environment. The post is limited to the West Bank/Jerusalem area and is open only to candidates living there within commuting distance and holding a valid work permit.

Key responsibilities

• Support schools and teachers directly through team and model teaching, co-teaching and classroom observation, and monitor the use of up-to-date inclusive teaching methods.
• Support continuing professional development and advise on professional development plans aligned with teachers' competencies.
• Advise School Principals on their School Development Plan and coordinate the continuing professional development needs of supported schools.
• Support curriculum analysis and enrichment, and advise on teaching and learning tools and resources for inclusive education.
• Contribute to quality assurance and to assessing and analysing student achievement.
• Take part in preparing interviews for teaching posts and assist in the performance management of teachers on technical matters.
• Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• At least eight years of satisfactory teaching experience in the subject to be supported.
• A university degree in the subject to be supported, with at least one year of professional teacher training, or a university degree plus an advanced degree in education; an advanced degree in a related subject is desirable.
• English at UN Level III (reading, writing, listening and speaking); French is the other working language of the UN Secretariat.
• Valid driving licence is desirable.

What we offer

• Fixed-term appointment for 1 year, including a 1-year probation period, with possible extension depending on funds, performance and need.
• Monthly basic salary of USD 1,410.70, payable in Jordanian dinars at the UN exchange rate.
• Monthly provident fund contribution (15.4%), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave and dependency allowance if applicable.
• Additional leave: 2 days sick leave per month completed, 14 weeks maternity leave and 2 weeks paternity leave.
