Education Specialist (Arabic) Grade 13 - Education Programme, Jerusalem

About the role

UNRWA is recruiting an Education Specialist (Arabic) Grade 13 for its Education Programme, Area Office Jerusalem, for internal candidates only. The incumbent provides technical support to teachers and schools in the area to promote equitable, inclusive and quality education, and supervises a large number of teachers. The post is limited to the UNRWA Education Programme in the West Bank/Jerusalem area.

Key responsibilities

• Support schools and teachers directly through team and co-teaching, classroom observation and demonstration of instructional resources, and monitor the use of inclusive teaching methods.
• Support continuing professional development and advise on professional development plans aligned with teachers' competencies.
• Advise School Principals on their School Development Plan and coordinate school-based development needs.
• Support curriculum analysis and enrichment, and advise on teaching and learning tools and resources for inclusive education.
• Contribute to quality assurance and to assessing student achievement and teacher performance.
• Help prepare interviews for teaching posts and assist principals in performance management.

Required profile

• At least eight years of satisfactory teaching experience in the subject to be supported.
• University degree in the subject, with at least one year of professional teacher training, or a university degree plus an advanced degree in education; an advanced degree in a related subject is desirable.
• English at UN Level II in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
• Valid driving licence is desirable.
• Candidates must reside in the West Bank or Jerusalem and hold a valid work permit for the duty station; the appointment is open only to internal candidates.

What we offer

• Fixed-term appointment of 1 year, including a 1-year probation period, with possible extension depending on funds, performance and need.
• Monthly basic salary of USD 1,410.70, payable in Jordanian dinars at the UN exchange rate.
• Provident fund contribution (15.4%), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days annual leave, 2 days sick leave per month, maternity and paternity leave, and dependency allowance if applicable.
