Application Engineer - Semiconductor Equipment

About the role

KLA is looking for an experienced Application Engineer to join its Engineering team. The engineer acts as a key technical interface between R&D, Manufacturing, Service and customers, helping advanced semiconductor equipment and processes move from development to manufacturing and deployment worldwide. The role suits someone who has worked closely with many semiconductor fabs across regions and understands wafer fabrication, equipment integration and customer needs.

Key responsibilities

• Support product development and New Product Introduction (NPI) from concept through high-volume manufacturing.
• Work with global semiconductor fabs on their manufacturing challenges, process requirements and equipment performance expectations.
• Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and continuous improvement to improve quality, reliability and factory efficiency.
• Act as technical expert for product applications, process integration and customer use cases.
• Analyze equipment performance data, find root causes of issues and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Software and Manufacturing Engineering teams to solve complex problems.
• Support factory builds, system integration, qualification and field escalations.
• Develop manufacturing procedures, training materials and best practices.
• Take part in customer meetings, technical reviews and product demonstrations worldwide, and feed customer and fab feedback back to product development.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in the semiconductor industry and extensive hands-on work with semiconductor fabs worldwide.
• Proven ability to solve multidisciplinary technical problems.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, and ability to travel internationally as required.
• Preferred: knowledge of NPI, PLC, DFM, reliability engineering and manufacturing readiness; experience across R&D, Manufacturing, Service and Applications; experience leading technical projects.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes such as lithography, metrology, inspection, deposition, etch and CMP.
• Experience with semiconductor capital equipment and manufacturing operations.
• Preferred: familiarity with data analysis, diagnostics and process optimization tools.
