Staff Engineer – Backend Design (VLSI)

About the role

As a Staff Engineer in Backend Design, you will join Infineon’s Research & Development team to drive the creation of advanced semiconductor IP. You will combine deep technical knowledge with creative problem‑solving to shape future digital‑design flows and ensure chip timing integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimise synthesis, place‑and‑route (P&R) and static timing analysis (STA) flows.
• Collaborate with IP and SoC project teams to integrate and verify IP designs.
• Lead multi‑scenario STA, timing constraint (SDC) creation and regression.
• Own chip‑level timing, including synthesis, P&R and timing regression activities.
• Perform RTL simulations, linting, synthesis, logic equivalence checks and automated test‑pattern generation.

Required profile

• University degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Embedded Systems, Physics or related field.
• Minimum 4 years experience as a VLSI Backend Engineer.
• Hands‑on experience with full RTL‑to‑GDSII flow for complex designs.
• Proficiency in scripting with TCL and Python.
• Excellent written and spoken English and strong teamwork skills.
