Mechanical Lab Technician

About the role

The Mechanical Lab Technician will support the development of high‑speed custom cable assemblies for telecom and data‑communication customers. Working in Amphenol's high‑speed products lab, you will create prototypes, assemble mock‑ups, and maintain equipment to ensure timely delivery of customer‑specific solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wire cut‑to‑length machines, measuring and cutting various wire gauges with precision.
• Run resin and FDM 3D printers, prepare STL files, slice models, and post‑process printed parts.
• Use CNC laser cutters to cut and engrave acrylic sheets from DXF or vector files, performing routine maintenance.
• Build mechanical and electrical cable mock‑ups from engineering drawings using hand tools, crimpers, and heat‑shrink.
• Label, package, and ship prototype samples for customer review.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lab environment, tracking and ordering supplies as needed.
• Support engineers with prototype assembly and mechanical test setups.

Required profile

• High school diploma required; technical school or associate degree in mechanical/manufacturing preferred.
• At least 2 years of hands‑on experience in a prototyping lab or manufacturing setting.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 40 lb, and perform fine‑motor tasks.

Required skills

• Experience with 3D printers (resin and FDM) and related software.
• Proficiency operating CNC laser cutters.
• Wire processing and use of related cutting equipment.
• Competence with hand and power tools for mechanical assembly.
• Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Basic computer literacy, including CAD file handling and slicer software.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
