Data Center Design Engineer

About the role

As a Data Center Design Engineer at Crusoe, you will be the primary architect of operational computing environments, shaping the whitespace where servers, storage, and network equipment reside. Your work directly supports Crusoe’s mission to align computing with climate goals by optimizing power distribution, cooling, and equipment density.

Key responsibilities

• Architect comprehensive whitespace layouts, including rack placement and aisle configurations, to maximize equipment density while maintaining optimal airflow and accessibility.
• Integrate power delivery and cooling systems with electrical and mechanical teams to support high‑performance cloud workloads.
• Develop sophisticated 3D models and capacity‑planning tools to ensure scalability and redundancy (N+1, 2N).
• Design structured cabling and fiber‑management systems in coordination with network and cloud teams.
• Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and provide technical guidance to contractors during construction and commissioning.
• Enforce compliance with industry standards (TIA‑942, ASHRAE) and local building codes.
• Produce and maintain high‑fidelity CAD/BIM drawings and schematics for operations, maintenance, and auditing.
• Evaluate emerging modular technologies and design methodologies to improve energy efficiency and site performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Facilities, or Data Center Engineering.
• 5+ years of data center design experience in cloud‑scale or hyperscale environments.
• Exceptional communication skills and ability to drive results within cross‑functional teams.
• Willingness and ability to travel to data center sites for implementation and inspections.

Required skills

• Advanced CAD/BIM software proficiency (AutoCAD, Revit, Visio or equivalent).
• Deep knowledge of power distribution, UPS systems, HVAC/cooling, and structured cabling.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as TIA‑942, Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, and ANSI/BICSI.
• Experience with capacity modeling and 3D layout tools.
