Area Relief & Social Services Officer (Fixed‑Term) – Jerusalem

About the role

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) seeks an experienced officer to supervise the implementation of Social Safety Net (SSN) and emergency assistance programmes in the Jerusalem area. This fixed‑term position reports technically to the Chief Relief and Social Services Programme and administratively to the Chief Area Officer.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and control the delivery of SSN assistance, emergency assistance and other social transfer programmes, ensuring compliance with Relief Services Instructions.
• Approve enrolment of refugee families in the SSN programme and act as secretary to the SSN appeals committee.
• Prepare and update priority lists for cash assistance, shelter rehabilitation and related activities.
• Conduct random field visits to verify eligibility data, review family files and ensure confidentiality.
• Monitor distribution processes, conduct site inspections and coordinate with RSS, finance and other area staff for timely delivery of approved assistance.

Required profile

• Proven supervisory experience with relief workers or similar humanitarian staff.
• Familiarity with UNRWA Relief Services Instructions and SSN eligibility criteria.
• Ability to ensure accurate documentation, data confidentiality and compliance with programme guidelines.
• Strong coordination skills with finance, distribution and field teams.
