Software Engineer III – Filestore

About the role

Google is seeking a Software Engineer III to join the Filestore team, building scalable, high‑performance storage solutions for Google Cloud customers. You will work on customer‑facing features and core infrastructure, contributing to a product that powers billions of users worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain new customer‑facing features aligned with the product roadmap.
• Enhance existing infrastructure for reliability, performance, and new requirements.
• Collaborate with filesystem engineering, program management, SRE, UX/UI, and other cross‑functional teams.
• Participate in performance improvements for a complex, distributed system.
• Mentor junior engineers and influence architecture and design decisions.
• Engage with product managers and customers to shape future requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of software development experience (or 1 year with an advanced degree).
• Preferred: Master’s or PhD, strong background in data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with Java and knowledge of clustered/distributed and concurrent programming.
• Familiarity with cloud computing concepts, filesystems, and storage technologies.
• Good understanding of distributed‑systems principles.
