Senior Switch Software Researcher

About the role

NVIDIA is seeking a highly motivated Senior Switch Software Researcher to drive innovation in Ethernet networks and switch ASICs for next‑generation AI clusters. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to translate switch‑level capabilities into large‑scale, cluster‑wide outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Research end‑to‑end networking solutions, including orchestration, job scheduling, collective communication patterns, and observability.
• Explore hardware/software trade‑offs for high‑radix Ethernet switches targeting future AI fabrics.
• Investigate machine‑learning methods for traffic understanding, control‑plane assistance, and configuration optimization.
• Build and evaluate proof‑of‑concepts using network/system simulations, performance models, and data‑driven analyses.
• Continuously assess emerging protocols, software stacks, open‑source initiatives, and academic work for alignment with the Ethernet switch roadmap.
• Collaborate with architects, advanced development teams, and other researchers across NVIDIA.

Required profile

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• 12+ years of experience in system architecture, networking technologies, and embedded software, with at least 3 years in a research role.
• Deep expertise in Ethernet/IP technologies, data‑center network topologies, and related protocols.
• Strong understanding of large‑scale network behavior, simulation, and the impact of distributed workloads.
• Proven ability to conduct rigorous research, prototype ideas, and translate findings into practical innovations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build consensus in a large organization.
