MEMS Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a senior MEMS & Micro‑Actuation Development Engineer to lead the design and implementation of advanced micro‑actuation solutions for a proprietary photonic quantum computing platform. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment that blends quantum physics, optics, mechanical engineering, hardware, firmware, and software.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end device engineering lifecycles, from architecture and analytical modeling to multi‑physics simulation, microfabrication, and experimental validation.
• Design and characterize custom MEMS actuators using electrostatic, piezoelectric, thermal, or hybrid mechanisms.
• Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations and bench testing to optimise performance, stability and robustness.
• Drive MEMS technologies from concept and prototyping through packaging, qualification and system‑level electro‑optical integration.
• Collaborate with quantum physicists, optical engineers, hardware and firmware teams in a world‑class multidisciplinary setting.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands‑on industry experience in MEMS design, development and implementation.
• Proven expertise in designing MEMS actuators (electrostatic, piezoelectric, thermal or hybrid).
• Strong background in analytical modeling, FEA simulations and experimental validation of MEMS devices.
• Track record of delivering MEMS devices from concept through microfabrication, characterization and system integration.
• Deep understanding of MEMS materials, cleanroom processes, packaging, reliability engineering and failure mechanisms.
• Academic degree (B.Sc./M.Sc./Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics or related field.
