Maintenance Worker I

About the role

The City of Sunbury is seeking a Maintenance Worker I to support a wide range of public works activities. Reporting to the Service Department Supervisor, you will help keep streets, parks, stormwater systems, lighting, and municipal facilities in good condition while assisting with snow and ice removal and community events.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on streets, sidewalks, stormwater infrastructure, parks, grounds, buildings, lighting and cemetery areas.
• Assist with snow and ice removal, litter collection, and event setup/teardown.
• Operate and maintain municipal equipment such as mowers, snowplows, and other heavy machinery.
• Drive city vehicles safely and comply with traffic regulations.
• Communicate with the public and team members to address service requests and report issues.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Effective communication skills and a positive, self‑starting attitude.
• Willingness to work independently or as part of a team.

Required skills

• Heavy equipment operation (e.g., mowers, snowplows, backhoes).
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B – ability to obtain and maintain within 24 months.
