Senior Data Engineer – GenAI Foundation Models

About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer you will work with top‑notch engineers and data scientists to elevate Booking.com’s content platform, delivering high‑quality data pipelines that feed generative AI models and improve the travel experience for millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Develop scalable, high‑performance data pipelines for massive textual sources used to train GenAI foundation models.
• Own end‑to‑end data quality for core datasets and pipelines, troubleshooting issues with priority on customer impact.
• Design and implement self‑service tools that help analysts discover, assess, and explore data across the organization.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists and analysts to translate business requirements into ML‑ready data solutions.

Required profile

• At least 6 years of experience as a Data Engineer delivering production‑grade ML/Data solutions.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or related field.
• Proven experience building cloud data‑lake and server‑less pipelines, schema design and data modelling.
• Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Required skills

• Python and Java programming.
• Big‑data frameworks such as PySpark, Apache Flink.
• Data‑warehouse technologies: Snowflake, MySQL, Cassandra, DynamoDB.
• ETL/ELT pipeline development and data‑warehousing concepts.
• Data manipulation libraries: NumPy, pandas, matplotlib.
