Senior Adviser

About the role

The Senior Adviser will support the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process in Jerusalem, providing high‑level political advice and analysis. Reporting directly to the Head of Mission, the role contributes to the implementation of UNSCO’s political mandate and to the broader peace‑building agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Special Coordinator on political, security and operational developments, offering strategic recommendations.
• Monitor and analyse emerging issues related to the peace process, integrating a rights‑based and conflict‑prevention perspective.
• Prepare and deliver timely, high‑quality reports, situation briefs, and diplomatic notes for senior UN officials and the Security Council.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with Israeli and Palestinian authorities, political parties, civil society, and international partners, including structures mandated by Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025).
• Coordinate closely with the UN Country Team in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and with regional UN offices on political matters.
• Support the preparation of Secretary‑General and Special Coordinator briefings for the General Assembly and Security Council.
• Undertake any additional duties assigned by the Special Coordinator.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of UN policies, rules and diplomatic procedures.
• Strong analytical ability to assess complex political situations and propose solutions.
• Excellent drafting skills for reports, speeches, briefing notes and diplomatic correspondence.
• Proven capacity to work under pressure, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality.
• Leadership experience and ability to represent the mission at senior levels.
