Research Software Engineer

About the role

Google is seeking a Research Software Engineer to contribute to cutting‑edge machine‑learning projects that power billions of users worldwide. You will join the Search team, working on speech/audio, reinforcement learning, and ML infrastructure to improve how information is accessed and processed.

Key responsibilities

• Write production‑grade code for product or system development.
• Collaborate with peers and stakeholders through design and code reviews, ensuring best practices, testability and efficiency.
• Maintain and update documentation or educational content based on product changes and user feedback.
• Diagnose, debug and resolve product or system issues affecting hardware, network, or service quality.
• Implement solutions in specialized ML areas, leveraging ML infrastructure for model deployment, evaluation, optimization and data processing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of software development experience (or 1 year with an advanced degree).
• Experience with speech/audio technologies, reinforcement learning, or other ML fields.
• Experience with ML infrastructure such as model deployment, evaluation, optimization, data processing or debugging.
• Preferred: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or related field, plus 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
