Package Design/Layout Engineer – Silicon Validation

About the role

Join Google’s custom silicon team to design, validate, and bring‑up cutting‑edge hardware that powers millions of consumer products. You will work on complex packet‑processing pipelines and advanced networking features, ensuring they meet performance and reliability targets.

Key responsibilities

• Dive into architecture and micro‑architecture of complex hardware units.
• Develop comprehensive post‑silicon validation test plans based on design specifications.
• Write, execute, and debug validation tests in Python or C/C++ on pre‑silicon emulation platforms and actual silicon.
• Lead silicon bring‑up, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis of hardware/software issues.
• Collaborate with architects, designers, and cross‑functional teams to drive bug fixes and feature validation.
• Contribute to test infrastructure and methodologies to improve coverage and efficiency.
• Mentor junior engineers as the team expands.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of functional silicon validation experience using C, C++ or Python.
• 5+ years of pre‑silicon or post‑silicon validation and silicon bring‑up experience.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, ownership mindset, and ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Preferred: Master’s or PhD in a related field, excellent communication, and a passion for deep technical challenges.
