Backend Team Manager – AppSec (Cortex Cloud)

About the role

Palo Alto Networks is seeking a Backend‑oriented Engineering Manager to lead the AppSec team within the Cortex Cloud platform. You will shape core product components that help developers avoid security mistakes while driving high‑performance, large‑scale systems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of software developers focused on the product’s core security features.
• Collaborate with the product manager to define scope, phases, and value‑vs‑effort trade‑offs.
• Conduct design review sessions, identify technical bottlenecks, and resolve obstacles.
• Participate hands‑on in the development lifecycle, including coding and code reviews.
• Introduce and improve engineering practices from planning to retrospectives, testing, CI/CD, and design principles.
• Recruit top talent and expand the team as needed.
• Build a collaborative environment and create personal development plans for each team member.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience as a Backend Developer.
• 3+ years of experience leading a development team.
• Strong security knowledge, preferably in code security.
• Hands‑on experience with JavaScript/TypeScript in production systems.
• Experience building and operating high‑scale live production services.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes and cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
