Advanced Optics Design Engineer – Camera HW

About the role

Apple’s Camera Hardware Engineering group in Herzliya is expanding its Advanced Optics team. We are seeking a physicist or electro‑optical engineer to lead the design and development of high‑performance micro‑ and nano‑optic components that will be integrated into Apple products.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the full development cycle of micro‑/nano‑optic elements, from concept through prototyping to high‑volume manufacturing.
• Develop, validate, and extend in‑house optical simulation and design tools.
• Perform optimization, verification and tolerance‑analysis studies.
• Collaborate with external vendors to refine fabrication processes for diffractive elements and metasurfaces.
• Define optical testing strategies for both prototype evaluation and production quality control.
• Work across multidisciplinary teams to integrate optical components into camera systems.

Required profile

• Advanced expertise in physical‑optics simulation (RCWA, FEM, FDTD).
• Strong background in optics, wave optics and ray optics; experience with metasurfaces or nano‑photonics is a plus.
• Proficiency in scientific programming, scripting and data analysis, preferably Python.
• Demonstrated ability in multi‑objective optimization and inverse design.
• Familiarity with semiconductor and MEMS fabrication processes.
• Self‑directed, collaborative mindset with 4+ years of relevant experience; M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a related field.
