Senior Software Engineer - Telemetry Data Platform

About the role

ServiceNow is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Telemetry Data Platform team, which handles product usage and performance telemetry for the entire ServiceNow platform on a stack built with Kubernetes, Kafka and ClickHouse. The team is distributed across Israel, India and the Americas. This is a full-stack role centred on telemetry development, data pipelines, Kubernetes and DevOps, supporting billions of records per day.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and own backend services for high-volume, high-cardinality event data streaming and processing with predictable latency and no data loss.
• Build and maintain Kafka-based streaming pipelines feeding ClickHouse, and own data modelling, partitioning, sort keys, materialised views and retention in ClickHouse.
• Deploy, scale and operate services in production Kubernetes environments, including Helm-based deployments and CI/CD pipelines.
• Own observability: metrics, logs, tracing and alerts tied to customer impact, and debug and resolve production incidents independently, including root-cause analysis.
• Build the backend services and APIs exposing telemetry to internal consumers, product surfaces and AI agents, including API contracts, data models and schema migrations.
• Contribute to analytics front ends (dashboards, funnels, exploration tools) and improve web and mobile capture SDKs.
• Lead design of complex, multi-service features, write design documents and postmortems, and mentor engineers through code review, test strategy and automation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a closely related field.
• 6+ years as a backend software engineer; 4+ years designing and operating distributed systems.
• 3+ years with Kubernetes in production, including Helm and CI/CD.
• 3+ years with Kafka or equivalent streaming pipelines, and on-call and production support experience.
• A master's degree may offset up to one year of experience; equivalent practical experience is considered.

Required skills

• Backend development in Java, Python, Go or equivalent at production scale.
• Distributed systems for streaming, processing and storage, and production Kubernetes with Helm and CI/CD.
• Working knowledge of Kafka or an equivalent messaging system.
• Solid SQL and columnar or analytical data stores, including query optimisation and physical data modelling.
• Front-end ability to build and debug data-heavy interfaces: JavaScript or TypeScript with React or Angular.
• Incident response and customer escalation experience.

Desired: ClickHouse or other OLAP stores, observability tooling (OpenTelemetry), stream processing frameworks such as Flink or Spark, client-side SDK development, and AI skills including AI coding assistants, LLM APIs, RAG pipelines and exposing telemetry to AI agents.
