Public Information Officer – UN Middle East Peace Process

About the role

The Public Information Officer will join the Public Information Unit of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO) in Jerusalem. Reporting directly to the Special Coordinator, the officer will lead outreach to local media, civil society, government and NGOs, and produce communication materials in local languages.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and disseminate information for local media and organizations, supporting outreach activities in local language(s).
• Prepare press briefings, interviews, press statements, releases, key messages, Q&As, talking points, newsletters, reports and publications.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with local journalists and media outlets across print, TV, radio, social media and web.
• Monitor and analyse local media, maintain a contact list of journalists, and respond promptly to disinformation.
• Build communication capacity with national partners, organise training, and develop strategic partnerships to raise the Mission’s visibility.
• Prepare and coordinate communication products in local languages, write human‑interest stories and create digital content for social‑media platforms.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to manage media outreach and produce high‑quality communication materials.
• Experience in drafting press statements, releases and other public information products.
• Strong analytical skills for media monitoring and disinformation response.
• Proven capacity to build partnerships with national NGOs, civil‑society groups and government entities.
• Fluency in local language(s) and English, with excellent written communication skills.
