Engineering Manager, Protocols

About the role

WEKA is seeking a senior engineering leader to drive the development of its protocol stacks (S3, NFS, SMB) across distributed data platforms. You will lead two squads located in Israel and the US, focusing on datapath performance, quality, and innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead two protocol squads, overseeing design, implementation, and quality of S3, NFS, and SMB stacks.
• Grow the teams, mentor engineers, and manage career development.
• Collaborate with program, product, and technical managers to deliver features from planning through release.
• Gather requirements from field and PM teams, maintain a technical debt backlog, and ensure timely remediation.
• Continuously improve team productivity, provide transparent progress and risk reporting.
• Champion clean design, efficient code, and thorough code reviews.
• Recruit, retain, and nurture talent while fostering a collaborative culture.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience managing software development teams.
• 5+ years of hands‑on development in C/C++, Python, Go or Rust.
• Customer‑facing experience and strong communication skills.
• Deep knowledge of Linux, low‑level user‑mode OS concepts, and highly distributed systems.
