Director of Mechanical Engineering

About the role

The Director of Mechanical Engineering will lead the Mechanical Engineering Department and drive the development of medical‑grade wearable devices. This senior leadership position combines team management, technical direction, and hands‑on involvement across the full product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and grow the mechanical engineering team, handling recruitment, resource allocation and performance management.
• Define and execute the department’s technical strategy, processes and long‑term capabilities.
• Oversee design, analysis, prototyping, testing, verification and transfer to production of mechanical and opto‑mechanical systems.
• Direct industrial design and mechanical architecture to balance functionality, comfort, usability, reliability and manufacturability.
• Ensure wearable products meet ergonomic and human‑factors criteria for prolonged use, including weight distribution, fit, adjustability and thermal comfort.
• Manage mechanical integration of optical components, ensuring alignment, dimensional stability, tolerance control and environmental robustness.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within medical or wearable device sectors.
• Strong background in industrial design, ergonomics and human‑factors engineering for extended‑wear products.
• Demonstrated expertise in opto‑mechanical integration and high‑precision mechanical design.
• Ability to guide products from concept through production, including design for manufacturing and quality assurance.
