Research Software Engineer

About the role

Cato Networks is building the next generation of cloud‑native security solutions for the AI era. The Research Software Engineer will join the Research & Infrastructure team to turn security research into product capabilities, working closely with researchers and security operations.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full development lifecycle: gather requirements, design architecture, and build backend services and web interfaces.
• Develop platforms for threat intelligence, malware hunting, and attack analysis that support Cato's Managed Threat Detection & Response service.
• Create tools that enable researchers to investigate threats, develop security content, and generate detection signatures.
• Design workflows and infrastructure to integrate research outputs into customer‑facing products.
• Build scalable data‑processing pipelines on the Cato Cloud data warehouse and integrate with internal and external services.

Required profile

• 3+ years of server‑side development experience in Python.
• 3+ years of web development experience with modern frameworks.
• Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals, system architecture, and end‑to‑end development.
• Proven ability to translate stakeholder needs into clear technical specifications and solutions.
• BSc in Computer Science or a related field and fluent English communication skills.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Modern web development frameworks.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Elasticsearch, MySQL and Redis.
• Ability to use AI tools effectively in daily engineering work.
