Backend Intern - Zerto Team

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is recruiting a Backend Intern for its Zerto team in Herzliya. Zerto, founded in Israel and acquired by HPE about five years ago, protects and recovers applications across virtualization platforms (VMware, HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, Microsoft Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). The internship lasts approximately 18 months and is designed as onsite, with the expectation of working mainly from an HPE office.

Key responsibilities

• Join a Zerto development team working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Develop new features and solve challenging bugs.
• Contribute to a distributed, multi-service system with complex business logic.
• Work with a modern, continuously evolving technology stack including Kubernetes.NET Core and virtualization APIs.
• Use AI throughout the software development lifecycle, from research and design to code reviews, environment provisioning, deployment and bug analysis, with tools such as GitHub Copilot, OpenCode, Atlassian Rovo and MCP servers.

Required profile

• Undergraduate student in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Computer Engineering with a GPA of 85 or higher and at least two years of study remaining.
• Available to work three to four days per week (about 60%-80%) in a hybrid model.
• Excellent written and verbal English, self-motivated and able to learn complex systems through training, documentation and independent exploration.
• Collaborative team player who can also work independently.
• Passionate about using AI in daily work and eager to explore new AI-powered approaches.

Required skills

• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming in C#, C++ or Java.
• Advantageous: multithreaded programming, virtualization and cloud platforms (VMware, Azure, AWS), containers (Docker), Kubernetes, Agile methodologies and REST APIs.
